The Cooler doesn’t need a high-level Pal to function well — it needs any Pal with the Cooling suitability assigned to it at all. What the assigned Pal’s Cooling level actually changes is secondary: when that same Pal staffs a Cooler Box or Refrigerator instead, a higher Cooling level extends how long stored food resists spoiling.

Two tiers exist. The base Cooler unlocks at Tech Level 18 for 20 Ingot, 20 Stone, and 5 Ice Organ [3]. Here’s the actual trade-off, not just the raw numbers. Frostallion’s only Work Suitability is Cooling Lv7 [2] — it can’t do Handiwork, Lumbering, or anything else at a base. That single-purpose design cuts both ways: assigning it to a Cooler wastes nothing, because there’s nothing else for it to do, but earning it in the first place means beating a Level 60 Alpha boss and then breeding two of them together if you want a second one for another base [2]. Wumpo trades two Cooling levels for three additional jobs and a catch you can complete on your first trip through the Astral Mountains.

If cooling is the only thing standing between your base and stable egg incubation, Frostallion’s Lv7 is worth the detour. For every other base, Wumpo covers Cooling comfortably while still pulling double duty on Transporting — and that’s work Frostallion can never do.

Should You Push Wumpo’s Cooling Level Higher?

You can raise any Work Suitability past its natural cap using the Pal Essence Condenser. If you only care about the Cooler’s temperature drop, Frostallion is stronger and costs you nothing else since cooling is its sole job. If you’re staffing a general base that also needs items moved around, Wumpo’s Transporting Lv6 makes it the Pal that’s actually doing more total work for the slot it occupies.

Do I need to breed Wumpo, or can I just catch one?

Just catch one. Wumpo spawns wild and non-aggressive in the Astral Mountains snow biome [1], so there’s no reason to route through a two-boss breeding chain the way you would for Frostallion. Breeding only becomes worth it if you’re chasing a specific passive-skill combo across multiple Wumpo.

Does a higher Cooling level make the Cooler colder?
