Forty players hit the map at the exact same second on wipe day, and most of them sprint to the same three or four monuments with no plan beyond “get loot.” The ones who actually gear up first aren’t faster runners — they’re running monuments in the right order for what’s already in their inventory at that moment. A monument isn’t just “good loot” or “bad loot.” It’s a trade between what a location gives you and what it costs in radiation exposure, scientist fights, and keycard tiers you don’t have on minute one.
This guide ranks every major Rust monument by loot-per-radiation value — not just raw loot quality — and turns that ranking into an actual run order for wipe day. It’s verified against the August 6, 2026 “Power Trip” patch, which changed why Power Plant matters this wipe specifically. New to the game? Start with our Rust beginner’s guide first, and if you’re playing without a squad, check the solo survival guide for how this order changes when nobody’s watching your back.
How This Ranking Works: Loot-Per-Radiation, Not a Flat Tier List
Radiation in Rust isn’t a flat “on/off” hazard — it scales, and the math punishes underprepared runs harder than most tier lists let on. There are four radiation tiers: Minimal (2), Low (10), Medium (25), and High (51). The amount of damage you take per second is multiplier × (tier − your protection), so a Medium zone with 20% protection still deals 5 points per second [1]. The High tier exists in exactly two places on the entire map: the Vehicle Assembly Building inside Launch Site’s factory, and the broken cooling tower at Power Plant — and it’s the only tier a full Hazmat Suit’s 50% protection can’t fully cancel out [1].
That’s the flaw in ranking monuments by loot alone. A location that hands out four Elite Crates but requires full hazmat, backup meds, and a squad to clear safely isn’t automatically better than a monument you can loot in your underwear two minutes after spawning. “Loot-per-radiation” weighs the crate count against what it actually costs to get there alive, which is what decides the run order below.
Monument Comparison Table: Loot, Radiation, Keycards, and Run Order

Here’s every monument covered in this guide, side by side. “Wipe-Day Priority” is the original column — it’s not what the monument is worth in isolation, it’s when you should actually go there relative to your gear.
| Monument | Loot Tier | Radiation | Keycard Needed | Wipe-Day Priority |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Supermarket / Gas Station | Low, occasional military crate | None | None (green card spawns here) | 1st — naked, minute one |
| Lighthouse | Low, no military crates | None | None | 1st — naked, minute one |
| Junkyard | Low, barrels + wood crates | None | None | 1st — naked, minute one |
| Sewer Branch | Low-Medium, guaranteed Blue Card behind puzzle | Mild (burlap is enough) | Green | 2nd — once you have a fuse |
| Water Treatment Plant | Medium, large + food/medical crates | Mild in sewers/towers | Red for endgame room only | 2nd-3rd |
| Power Plant | Medium-High, military crates + Heavy Fuse slots | High at cooling tower; Medium elsewhere | Green then Blue | 3rd — priority this wipe |
| Military Tunnels | High, ~2 Elite + ~6 Military Crates | High throughout | None (guarded by LR-300 scientists instead) | 4th — geared only |
| Oil Rig | High, up to 31 crates + puzzle chain | Medium-High | Green → Blue → Red | 4th — geared, ideally by boat |
| Launch Site | Highest — ~12 Military + 4 Elite Crates on a full run | Extreme in the factory (beats hazmat) | None, but Bradley APC patrols | 5th — full hazmat, squad, last |
| Missile Silo | Highest — 4 Elite Crates + advanced BP fragment | Medium outside / High underground | Red, 20-second entry window | 5th — full hazmat, last |
Zero-Risk Monuments: Run These With Nothing But a Rock

Supermarket, Gas Station, Lighthouse, and Junkyard share one trait that makes them the correct first stop every single wipe: zero radiation. Supermarket and Gas Station both hide a Green Keycard on a desk in their back offices, plus a locker room that can roll military crates alongside the basic ones [10][11]. Lighthouse won’t give you a military crate at all, but its one guaranteed supply crate at the top and a Recycler on-site make the climb worth two minutes of your time [9]. Junkyard is the least exciting of the four — barrels and wood crates only — but it costs you nothing to check on the way to somewhere better [12].
The mistake new players make here isn’t skipping these monuments — it’s stopping at them. They’re a floor, not a ceiling. Grab whatever cloth, basic tools, and green cards they hand you, then move immediately to the next tier while everyone else is still farming stone.
The Power Plant Play Everyone’s Missing Since Power Trip
Power Plant used to be a mid-tier loot stop: solid military crates, a Blue Card puzzle, high radiation near the cooling towers from what the game’s lore treats as leftover dirty-bomb contamination [4]. The August 6, 2026 “Power Trip” patch changed what it’s worth strategically. New Heavy Fuses now plug into two fuseboxes at the plant to power an island-wide electrical grid — stacking enough fuses buffs powerline poles and unlocks perks at other monuments, including power to the Abandoned Supermarket’s freezer [14]. Whoever’s team gets there first and starts feeding the fuseboxes effectively claims a map-wide utility advantage for the rest of the wipe, not just a loot room.
That’s why Power Plant now sits at priority three instead of getting pushed to “whenever” the way most static tier lists still rank it — several existing monument guides haven’t caught up to this patch yet. You still need real radiation protection to work the cooling-tower side safely, so don’t push in without at least partial rad gear, but the grid-control angle is worth prioritizing over farming a second round of naked-run monuments.
Full-Hazmat Monuments: Military Tunnels, Oil Rigs, Launch Site, Missile Silo

These four don’t get run until you’ve got real armor and, ideally, a squad. Military Tunnels requires no keycard at all — its difficulty comes entirely from scientists armed with LR-300s who shoot on sight instead of only at close range like normal NPCs, patrolling abundantly radioactive tunnels that hide roughly two Elite Crates on a flatcart plus more in the Laboratory section, which also spawns around four military crates on its own [3]. Oil Rig guards up to 31 loot crates and its full green-blue-red keycard chain with as many as 16 scientists, and triggering the Locked Crate event calls in six Heavy Scientists by Chinook — don’t start that puzzle without backup (scientist counts run a bit higher on the Large Oil Rig variant than the Small one, though both follow the same keycard chain) [5].
Launch Site is the biggest prize and the biggest risk on the map: a full military run nets roughly 12 Military Crates and 4 Elite Crates, but its factory building carries the game’s only other pocket of High-tier radiation outside Power Plant, strong enough to keep hurting you through a Hazmat Suit, and the Bradley APC patrols the grounds specifically to punish greedy loot runs [2]. Missile Silo demands a Red Keycard and gives you only a 20-second window to jump down its hatch once you swipe in, guarded by 300-HP NVGM scientists with night vision and LR-300s or Spas-12s — the payoff is 4 Elite Crates and an advanced blueprint fragment at the base [6]. Run all four in full hazmat, with meds, and ideally not alone.
Who Should Run What: Priority by Player Type
| Player Type | Priority |
|---|---|
| New player | Stay in the zero-radiation tier (Supermarket, Gas Station, Lighthouse, Junkyard) until you have cloth armor and a green card. Don’t touch Military Tunnels or Oil Rig without a mentor. |
| Casual player | Add Sewer Branch and Water Treatment Plant for card progression and mild-radiation loot. Skip Oil Rig solo — the scientist count isn’t worth it without backup. |
| Hardcore / optimizer | Rush Power Plant’s fuseboxes turn one for the map-wide power advantage, then push Launch Site once your squad’s hazmat is ready. Track the wipe countdown at Missile Silo — NPC activity spikes in the last 24 hours before a new wipe. |
| Completionist | Clear the full green-blue-red puzzle chain at Oil Rig, then Missile Silo’s Red Card bunker for the advanced blueprint fragment — the rarest confirmed drop in this guide. |
The Wipe-Day Run Order
If you’re not sure where to start, follow this sequence and adjust based on what you actually looted at each step:
- Minute 0-15: Supermarket, Gas Station, and/or Lighthouse. Grab cloth, a green card if one spawns, and check for a Recycler.
- Minute 15-40: Sewer Branch if you found a fuse, then Junkyard on the way. You should have basic tools and possibly a Blue Card by now.
- Minute 40-80: Water Treatment Plant for the rad-free parkour-tower crate, then Power Plant if your team has rad protection — prioritize the Heavy Fuse boxes this wipe over the loot room itself.
- Once geared (cloth or better, meds stocked): Military Tunnels or Oil Rig, whichever your server hasn’t already cleared.
- Full hazmat, squad, backup meds: Launch Site and Missile Silo, in that order — Launch Site has more total loot, but Missile Silo’s 20-second entry window means you need to already know the layout before you swipe your Red Card.
Don’t run Launch Site or the Oil Rig’s red puzzle alone without hazmat and a stocked medkit — the Bradley APC and the scientist squads guarding those rooms are built to punish exactly that. Once you’ve hauled all of this back, where you store it matters as much as how you got it; see our base design guide for layouts that don’t just get raided the next night.
FAQ
Is Launch Site always the best monument to run?
No — it’s the best monument to run only once you can survive it. Its factory building has the same High radiation tier as Power Plant’s cooling tower, strong enough to keep damaging you through a Hazmat Suit’s 50% protection [1][2]. Running it naked or in cloth isn’t ambitious, it’s a wasted spawn. Rank it by loot alone and you’ll send undergeared players to their deaths chasing a number on a tier list.
Do I need a keycard for Military Tunnels?
No, and that’s exactly why it’s often more accessible early than Power Plant or Oil Rig despite being more dangerous. There’s no puzzle to solve — the difficulty is entirely combat, from LR-300-armed scientists who shoot on sight [3]. If your team can fight but hasn’t found keycards yet, Military Tunnels gets you Elite Crate loot that Power Plant’s Blue Card puzzle would otherwise gate behind progression you don’t have.
What changed for monuments in the August 2026 Power Trip update?
Power Plant became the hub of an island-wide power grid: Heavy Fuses plugged into its fuseboxes buff powerline poles and unlock perks at other monuments, including power to the Abandoned Supermarket’s freezer [14]. Launch Site also got a new terminal for triggering a satellite crash event. Both changes are recent enough that several existing monument tier lists still rank Power Plant as a mid-wipe afterthought — this wipe, it’s worth prioritizing earlier for the grid control alone, not just the loot room.
Is Oil Rig worth running solo?
Only if you’re confident in your combat and you skip the Locked Crate event. Up to 16 scientists guard the rig before you even touch the puzzle chain, and triggering the Locked Crate event calls in six additional Heavy Scientists by Chinook [5] — that’s not a fight one player wins cleanly. If you’re playing alone, our solo survival guide covers safer alternatives for late-game loot without needing a squad to clear scientist-heavy monuments.
