The Chemistry Station doesn’t unlock the moment your rank bar says it should. Hitting Hoodlum V opens Warehouse access, but the station itself sits behind a specific mission inside that Warehouse — and even after you own it, the ingredient that makes it useful stays locked behind a rank you probably haven’t hit yet. Miss that distinction and you’ll grind XP for a station you still can’t feed.
This guide skips the ingredient-by-ingredient profit math already covered in our mixing recipes ranked by profit and production guide. Instead it answers a narrower, more practical question: in what order does the equipment itself unlock, what can each station actually make, and which combo gets you to the game’s highest documented single recipe — a $735 cocaine mix — the fastest. Verified against build v0.4.6 Open Beta (8 July 2026); no chemistry, mixing, or cauldron mechanics have changed since the March 2026 Anniversary Update[9].
Quick Start: The Unlock Order
Buy nothing until you’ve cleared these checkpoints in sequence — skipping ahead just means paying for equipment you can’t legally feed yet.
- Reach Hoodlum V rank through street and dealer sales. This is the real wall, not the station’s price tag.[3][4]
- Complete the Warehouse-access mission tied to that rank. It opens the building itself, not just a map marker — the equipment vendor is inside, not before it.
- Visit Oscar’s stall on the Warehouse’s first floor, open only 6 p.m.–6 a.m. He’s the sole vendor for the Chemistry Station, Lab Oven, and the precursor chemicals both stations consume.[6][10]
- Buy a Chemistry Station and Lab Oven as a pair, $1,000 each. A Chemistry Station without a Lab Oven produces unfinished liquid meth you cannot sell.[6][10]
- If cocaine is the priority instead, buy a Cauldron rather than a second Chemistry Station — see the compatibility matrix below for why.[2]
- Don’t buy Pseudo yet even if you own the station. It doesn’t appear for purchase until Hustler III, regardless of what your Chemistry Station can already process.[10]
- Don’t hire a Chemist yet either. Run the first few batches yourself; hiring before your supply chain is stable is the exact mistake our automation guide calls a cash death spiral.
The Three Gates Nobody Combines Into One Answer
Most guides treat “unlocking the chemistry lab” as a single rank threshold. It’s actually three separate gates, and clearing the first two doesn’t touch the third.
Gate one — the station itself. Warehouse access, and with it the Chemistry Station and Cauldron, opens at Hoodlum V rank via the main storyline. Our own rank guide puts that threshold at 3,000 cumulative XP, and two independent outlets confirm the same rank gate for warehouse entry.[3][4] One source instead cites Hustler V specifically for hiring a Chemist employee, as opposed to accessing the warehouse or buying the station.[1] We trust Hoodlum V for station and warehouse access — it’s corroborated by three sources including our own rank data — and flag Hustler V as an unconfirmed, employee-specific figure worth checking against your own rank screen before you budget for a hire.
Gate two — the ingredient. This is the one that catches players off guard. You can own a fully-paid Chemistry Station at Hoodlum V and still have nothing to put in it: Pseudo, the meth base ingredient, isn’t sold until Hustler III, well past the rank that unlocked the station itself.[10] Buying the station early isn’t wasted money — you’ll need it eventually — but budget the Pseudo/Acid/Phosphorus supply run ($80/$40/$40 per cook) for when you actually hit Hustler III, not before.[10]
Gate three — the recipe. Owning the station and affording the ingredients still doesn’t unlock the high-value mixes. The multi-step recipes that push a product past $300 a unit require Hustler III rank before their ingredients even appear at the Gas Mart.[7][8] Gates two and three land at the same rank in current data, which is likely why most guides collapse them into one — but they’re mechanically distinct unlocks (ingredient availability vs. recipe-ingredient availability), and a future patch could easily separate them again.
What Each Station Actually Cooks
The station names get used interchangeably in a lot of community write-ups, but they aren’t interchangeable in-game. Only one of the four is universal.
| Station | Unlock Gate | Secondary Input | Produces | Feeds Into |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mixing Station | Hoodlum I (earliest of the four) | Mixer ingredient, supplied by a Handler | Effect-mixing on any base product — weed, meth, or cocaine | Packaging |
| Chemistry Station | Hoodlum V + Warehouse mission, $1,000 from Oscar | Pseudo, Acid, Phosphorus | Liquid meth only, 8-hour cook | Lab Oven |
| Cauldron | Hoodlum V + Warehouse, from Oscar | Gasoline | Base cocaine only, from coca leaf | Lab Oven |
| Lab Oven | Hoodlum V + Warehouse, $1,000 from Oscar | None — auto-processes Chemistry Station or Cauldron output | Finishes liquid meth (6-hour bake) or base cocaine into sellable product | Storage or Mixing Station |
The takeaway most guides skip: the Chemistry Station is meth-exclusive and the Cauldron is cocaine-exclusive. Only the Mixing Station touches every product line, which is why it unlocks four ranks earlier than the other three — it’s the one piece of equipment every build needs regardless of which drug you specialize in.[2][10]
The Equipment Combo Behind the $735 Recipe
The single highest-value recipe documented across current guides isn’t meth — it’s cocaine, and the equipment chain behind it looks like this: Cauldron (loaded with gasoline) converts coca leaves into base cocaine, a Lab Oven finishes it, then a Mixing Station applies eight ingredients in this exact order: Motor Oil, Cuke, Paracetamol, Gasoline, Cuke, Battery, Horse Essence, Mega Bean. That sequence sells for $735 against $42 in ingredient cost — $693 profit per unit — and it’s gated behind Hustler III, with the mixer ingredients themselves only appearing at the Gas Mart once you hit that rank.[7]
Compare that to the best documented meth-line recipe at the same Hustler III gate: Banana, Cuke, Paracetamol, Gasoline, Cuke, Battery, Horse Semen, Mega Bean, for $38 cost against $340 sale — $302 profit.[8] Nearly identical mixer stacks, and cocaine still clears more than double the meth profit per unit. That’s not a mixing quirk; it’s because every added effect multiplies against the base product’s price, so the same $2 ingredient is worth far more stacked on a $150 cocaine base than a $60 meth base — the mechanic our production guide walks through in full.
Sequence isn’t cosmetic here. The same eight ingredients loaded in a different order produce different effects entirely, so treat the listed order as load-bearing, not a suggestion you can shuffle for convenience.[8] And once you’re running more than one line, chaining multiple Cauldron-to-Mixing-Station setups and assigning a second Chemist is a layout and staffing problem, not a recipe problem — that’s covered station-by-station in our lab setup guide and automation guide rather than repeated here.
Decision Tree: Which Station to Buy First
If your Warehouse cash only covers one production line before Hustler III arrives, use this order rather than buying both stations at once and leaving one idle:
- If you’re still below Hustler III and just cleared Hoodlum V: buy the Cauldron and Lab Oven first, not the Chemistry Station. You’ll have coca-leaf-to-base-cocaine production running while Pseudo is still locked out of the shops, and the cocaine ceiling recipe outperforms meth’s by more than 2x once both unlock anyway.[7][8]
- If you already have a coca supply line established (a Botanist and grow pods) before reaching Hoodlum V: prioritize the Cauldron purchase the moment the Warehouse opens — you’ll have zero downtime between unlock and first cook.
- If you’re at Hustler III or above already and starting the lab from scratch: buy both stations together. At that rank both ingredient lines are unlocked simultaneously, so there’s no sequencing advantage to staggering the purchase.
- If cash is under $2,500: buy one Lab Oven and one processing station only — Chemistry Station or Cauldron, not both — and manually run it before adding a second line or a Chemist hire.
Priorities by Player Type
| Player Type | What to Prioritize |
|---|---|
| New player | Stop at gate one. Get the Cauldron or Chemistry Station running manually before touching automation — learning the cook cycle beats scaling a process you don’t understand yet. |
| Casual player | Buy the Cauldron line only. It out-earns meth at the same rank gate with one fewer ingredient type to manage (no Pseudo/Acid/Phosphorus supply run). |
| Hardcore / optimizer | Run both lines in parallel from Hustler III onward and daisy-chain Mixing Stations immediately — the profit gap between manual and automated output compounds fast once both recipes are unlocked. |
| Completionist | Build the meth line even after confirming cocaine’s higher ceiling — it’s the only path to some Hustler-tier recipe variants the Cauldron chain doesn’t produce. |
FAQ
Is the Chemistry Station worth buying before Hustler III if I’ve already hit Hoodlum V?
Yes, but only if the $1,000 doesn’t stall a more urgent purchase. You can’t cook Pseudo-based meth until Hustler III regardless of when you buy the station, so the early purchase only pays off if your cash reserve can absorb dead equipment for several ranks. If money’s tight, the Cauldron line reaches profitability sooner because coca cultivation doesn’t share Pseudo’s rank gate.[10]
Why does the Cauldron need gasoline but the Chemistry Station doesn’t?
They’re chemically distinct processes in the game’s system — the Cauldron boils in bulk and needs a fuel input, while the Chemistry Station’s three named chemicals (Pseudo, Acid, Phosphorus) are the whole recipe.[10] It’s not a balance oversight; it’s why the two stations have different secondary-ingredient logistics and can’t be run by a single supply route without a Handler splitting deliveries.
Should I trust the $735 recipe as the permanent best mix, or will it change?
Treat it as current-best, not permanent. The Anniversary Update already retuned NPC product-effect durations without touching mixing values[9], showing the developers adjust economy numbers independent of station mechanics. Recheck this recipe’s sell price after any update that mentions “mixing” or “effects” in its patch notes before assuming $735 still holds.
Can I skip the Chemistry Station entirely and just run Cauldron plus Mixing Stations?
Mechanically, yes — nothing forces you to build a meth line. Given the cocaine recipe’s roughly 2x profit edge at the same rank gate, skipping meth isn’t a mistake unless you’re going for full production-tree completion, in which case see the Completionist row above.
Bottom Line
The rank bar lies by omission, not by being wrong. Hoodlum V genuinely does open the Warehouse, the vendor, and both processing stations — but it doesn’t open the ingredients or the recipes that make owning them worthwhile. Treat station purchase, ingredient access, and recipe complexity as three separate unlocks that happen to cluster around Hustler III for the ingredients you actually need, and build in that order: Cauldron and Lab Oven first if your cash is limited before Hustler III, both lines together if you’re already past it, and a Chemist hire only once the supply chain runs without you standing in the room. Skip that sequencing and you’ll own $2,000 of idle steel sitting on the Warehouse floor for several ranks — money that could have gone toward the coca supply line that starts paying back immediately.
