Pokémon GO Mega Sableye Super Max Level: Is It Worth Powering Up in Halloween 2026 Part 2?

Spend Mega Energy on Mega Sableye’s Super Max Level only if you already have it at Max and farm Dark- and Ghost-type catches; skip it if you want a raid attacker. Night Shade+ is not the reason to pay. Niantic says an eligible Mega gets its extra Charged Attack at any Mega Level, and only the move’s power rises with level. What the move changes is the moveset: Feint Attack / Night Shade+ beats Mega Sableye’s best option without it by about 24%, and that still ranks only 68th among Ghost attackers.

Halloween 2026 Part II runs Sunday, November 1, 10:00 a.m. to Thursday, November 5, 8:00 p.m. local time, per Niantic’s event page. It is the first time Mega Sableye can reach Super Max, and Shiny Greavard debuts alongside it.

What Night Shade+ actually changes

Night Shade+ is a Ghost-type Charged Attack that Sableye knows while Mega Evolved: 55 power in Trainer Battles and 160 in Raid Battles according to the event page, and rising with Mega Level. Because the extra attack arrives regardless of level, you get it today without spending a single point of Super Max Mega Energy.

The Pokémon GO Hub database shows what it buys. These figures use default battle settings, and the page does not say which Mega Level they assume:

MovesetDPSTDO
Feint Attack / Night Shade+11.46216.7
Shadow Claw / Night Shade+11.40215.5
Shadow Claw / Foul Play9.21174.2
Feint Attack / Foul Play8.91168.5

Against the best pairing without it (Shadow Claw / Foul Play), Night Shade+ adds 24% to both damage per second (11.46 ÷ 9.21 = 1.24) and total damage output (216.7 ÷ 174.2 = 1.24). That is a real upgrade, but the database still places the new moveset 68th as a Ghost attacker, C tier.

Niantic’s rule from the first batch of extra attacks is that they work in GO Battle League but not in Gym battles against Gym defenders. That note predates Sableye, so treat it as likely, not confirmed. Our Mega PvP guide covers where Megas fit in the leagues.

What Super Max adds on top

Super Max is a separate purchase, and Niantic lists its bonuses as:

  • Greatly enhanced CP while Mega Evolved.
  • Greatly increased catch Candy, catch XP and Candy XL chance, only for Pokémon that share a type with your Mega. For Sableye that means Dark and Ghost catches.
  • A 24-hour rest period before you can Mega Evolve it again without Mega Energy.

To get there you must reach the third level, Max, first, then spend Sableye Mega Energy. Mega Evolving alone will not do it. Niantic prints no price. Our Mega Level guide lists 5,000 Mega Energy on top of Max, but treat that as unverified and read the cost off your own Sableye’s power-up screen. The same Niantic post says a later update will make the price fall the more often you have Mega Evolved a Pokémon, which is a reason not to rush if you are far from Max.

Nothing on the event page ties Super Max to the five days: the wording is “starting with” this event, so it does not read as a November 5 deadline.

Who should spend the Mega Energy

You are…Verdict
Short of Max Mega LevelWait. Super Max cannot start until Max, and the cost may fall later.
Raid optimiserSkip. C tier at 68th does not justify the energy. Night Shade+ is already yours.
Catch farmer at MaxSpend. Same-type Candy, XP and XL bonuses are the payoff, and rest drops to 24 hours.
GO Battle League playerTest Night Shade+ first. Power rises with level, but it works at any level.

Getting the energy before November 5

GO Hub’s event guide lists a Field Research task, “Catch 13 Pokémon”, that pays 13 Sableye Mega Energy. If the 5,000 figure holds, that is roughly 385 such rewards, so research alone is unlikely to carry you; Niantic says the most Mega Energy comes from defeating a Mega-Evolved Pokémon in a Mega Raid. GO Hub’s counters guide says around two to five trainers with strong, high-level Pokémon can beat Mega Sableye. Our Mega Energy guide covers the faster routes.

Shiny Greavard is the other headline. GO Hub says evolving it gives Shiny Houndstone for 50 Greavard Candy, but Niantic’s event page does not mention Houndstone, so confirm in game before you spend Candy.
