Palworld Relaxaurus Guide: Relaxaurus vs Lux — Same Missile Damage, Different Base Role

Relaxaurus and Relaxaurus Lux fire the exact same missile launcher damage. Not close — identical, level for level, according to the two independent data sets that track it. If you’ve been holding off on breeding Lux because you assumed the electric subspecies hits harder in combat, that assumption is costing you base-building efficiency, not damage. This guide breaks down where the two Dragon Pals actually diverge: work suitability, the missile ammo you’ll need to keep either one firing, and which one earns a permanent spot in your compound. Verified on Palworld v1.0 (July 10, 2026), the update that quietly rewrote the work suitability values for both Pals.

Quick Verdict — Which One Do You Actually Need

  • Combat: tie on the mounted missile launcher, but Lux’s unmounted active skills hit far harder at max level.
  • Stats: Lux is slightly ahead — 110 Attack / 75 Defense vs. 100 Attack / 70 Defense.
  • Base role: base Relaxaurus waters crops at Level 3; Lux generates electricity at Level 4.
  • Ammo: neither one can craft its own Missile Ammo — you need a separate Handiwork Pal for that.
  • Breeding: Relaxaurus + Sparkit = Relaxaurus Lux.
  • Bottom line: catch Lux if your water needs are already covered elsewhere; catch base Relaxaurus first if they aren’t — it’s the same combat mount without the extra breeding step.

Every Relaxaurus is born with the Glutton passive baked in — hunger drops about 10% faster than normal, which is the trade-off for a Pal this useful in combat. On top of that, wild-caught individuals can roll extra passives on capture, things like Ferocious (+20% Attack) or Lord of the Sea (+20% water damage) — check the passive slots on the Pal you actually catch rather than assuming a blank slate. Lux drops from the same wild pool but gains its Electric typing and the electricity-generation role through the Relaxaurus + Sparkit breeding combo, not through natural spawns.

Hungry Missile vs Missile Party: Why the Rocket Damage Is a Dead Heat

Both partner skills scale on an identical base-power table as they level up through trust and feeding: Level 1 sits at 10 power, Level 2 at 11, Level 3 at 13, Level 4 at 16, and Level 5 at 20. That table is the same whether you’re riding Relaxaurus or Relaxaurus Lux. Each Pal needs its own launcher crafted separately — Relaxaurus’s Missile Launcher unlocks at a Pal Gear Workbench once you’ve caught and leveled the Pal — but the weapon itself doesn’t get better or worse depending on which subspecies is holding it.

None of the databases I checked — the Palworld wiki, Game8, or PalDB — publish the exact rounds-per-second or magazine size for either skill, so treat fire-rate claims you see elsewhere as unverified. What’s documented and consistent across two independent listings is the power-per-level table above. If you run across a guide claiming one Pal’s missile launcher hits harder than the other’s, that claim doesn’t hold up against the published numbers.

It’s also not confirmed whether Lux’s higher Attack stat (110 vs. 100) feeds into the mounted missile launcher’s damage at all, or only applies to Relaxaurus’s own bite and breath attacks when it’s not being ridden. Treat the extra Attack as a genuine edge in unmounted fights and Dragon Cannon-style skills — not a confirmed missile buff — until Pocketpair documents the scaling directly.

Off-Mount Combat: This Is Where Lux Actually Pulls Ahead

The missile launcher parity doesn’t extend to each Pal’s own active skill set — cast without a saddle, in a straight Paldeck fight or a boss arena, the two diverge hard by the time they hit their late-level skills.

40Aqua Burst (Water) — 200 powerLightning Strike (Electric) — 300 power
50Dragon Meteor (Dragon) — 150 powerLightning Bolt (Electric) — 450 power

Through Level 22 the two skill lines track each other reasonably closely — Relaxaurus’s Water-element hits are actually stronger at Level 7 than Lux’s equivalent slot. The gap opens at the top end: Lux’s Level 40 and 50 skills, Lightning Strike and Lightning Bolt, hit for 300 and 450 power against Relaxaurus’s 200 and 150. That’s the real combat argument for breeding Lux — not the mounted missile launcher, which is identical either way, but the fact that its unmounted kit scales into a considerably harder late-game hitter. If you’re planning to use either Pal in Tower boss fights or Raid content at a high level, Lux’s skill line is the one doing the heavier lifting.

The Work Suitability Gap Patch 1.0 Created

Before the July 10, 2026 update, base Relaxaurus sat at Watering Level 2 and Transporting Level 1. Patch 1.0 folded work suitability into a wider 10-level system and rebalanced values across the whole Paldeck — Relaxaurus came out at Watering Level 3 and Transporting Level 3, a real jump for anyone using it to keep large plantations irrigated without building a separate sprinkler network. Lux picked up the same Transporting Level 3 and now sits at Generating Electricity Level 4, one of the stronger power sources you can slot into an automated base.

If your numbers don’t match what’s in this article, check which build your save or server is running first — pre-1.0 saves will still show the older, lower suitability values, and older guides written before the patch are describing a Pal that no longer exists in its current form.

Neither One Can Build Its Own Ammo

This is the part almost every “best Dragon Pal” list skips. Missile Ammo — the item both Hungry Missile and Missile Party actually consume — is crafted at a Weapon Assembly Line II from 1 Pal Metal Ingot, 1 Crude Oil, 1 Circuit Board, and 1 Pal Fluids, at a workload of 2000. That station requires Handiwork suitability to staff, and neither Relaxaurus nor Relaxaurus Lux has any Handiwork at all. Assign either one to the Weapon Assembly Line and it just stands there — it isn’t qualified for the job, full stop.

Pair your Dragon Pal with a dedicated Handiwork worker instead. Anubis is the only Pal in the game with Handiwork Level 4, making it the fastest option if you already have one. If you don’t, Verdash at Level 3 is the more practical pick early on — it also covers Planting, Lumbering, Transporting, and Gathering, so it earns its base slot even outside ammo duty.

Here’s the catch a lot of players miss: Weapon Assembly Line II doesn’t require power to run. So Lux’s headline Level 4 electricity generation, despite sounding like the obvious combo with a weapons production line, does nothing for how fast your base turns out Missile Ammo. That stat only pays off on buildings that actually draw power, like electric furnaces or cooling units — not the assembly line making the bullets for its own gun.

Which Dragon Pal Should You Actually Catch?

Player TypeRecommendationWhy
New playerBase Relaxaurus firstWatering Lv3 covers early plantations without a dedicated sprinkler build, and it’s a wild catch — no breeding required.
Casual playerWhichever you catch first; breed the other later if you feel like itCombat output is identical between the two, so there’s no wrong first pick for missile damage.
Hardcore optimizerLux, bred deliberatelyThe higher Attack/Defense block plus Electricity Lv4 pulls double duty once your base runs on automated power.
CompletionistCatch and breed bothYou need the Relaxaurus + Sparkit combo for a full Paldeck regardless of which one you’d use in practice.

If you already have your water needs handled — sprinklers up, or another Level 3-plus waterer on the roster — go breed Lux. If you don’t have that covered yet, grab the base Relaxaurus first; it’s the same missile-launcher mount for a fraction of the effort, since Sparkit eggs and a Breeding Farm take real time to set up. Either Pal also earns a slot in a general mount rotation — see our full rideable Pals guide if you’re weighing mounts beyond just the Dragon line.

FAQ

Is Relaxaurus Lux strictly better than base Relaxaurus?
No. Missile damage is identical between them, and base Relaxaurus’s Watering Level 3 is more broadly useful early on than Lux’s Electricity Level 4 if you haven’t built an automated power setup yet. Lux only pulls ahead once your base is far enough along that a Level 4 generator matters more than crop irrigation.

Can I put Relaxaurus on ammo crafting duty?
No. Neither Relaxaurus nor Lux has any Handiwork suitability, so assigning either to a Weapon Assembly Line or Weapon Assembly Line II accomplishes nothing. You need a dedicated Handiwork Pal — Anubis or Verdash — staffing that station instead.

Does Relaxaurus Lux’s electricity generation speed up ammo production?
No, and this is the most common misread of the pairing. Weapon Assembly Line II doesn’t require power at all, so Lux’s headline stat has zero effect on how fast your base turns out Missile Ammo. Its Electricity Lv4 only matters for buildings that actually draw power, like furnaces or coolers.

What’s the easiest way to breed Relaxaurus Lux?
Pair a Relaxaurus with a Sparkit at a Breeding Farm — that’s the only listed combo for it. For the exact incubation and temperature setup, see our full Palworld breeding guide.
